Tumaini Festival - Dzaleka Refugee Camp

Event Time: The first weekend of May

Admission fee: Free

Tumaini Festival was founded by Menes La Plume in 2014 and is held in Dzaleka Refugee Camp. The festival aims to promote peaceful coexistence between refugees and people in the community and promote mutual understanding and harmony among cultures through the use of entertainment, artistic expression, and culture.

This is a major event in the refugee camp that is run by the refugees in the camp together with the host community for the benefit of the both communities. Previously, there were more than 129,000 people participating in the festival and 304 performances from Malawi, Africa, and around the world that joined the same stage with Dzaleka.

Tumaini Festival is a highlight for people in Dzaleka and a special opportunity for refugees to share their aspects of life and sell their handmade crafts which make money for them.

Ufulu Festival - Lilongwe

Event Time: 6 July (Independence Day)

Admission fee: Free

Ufulu Festival was founded in 2014 every July 6 in commemoration of Malawi’s Independence Day, opening up chances for youth people to celebrate and recapture histories of the country.

Ufulu Festival will celebrate the culture through arts and creativities such as music, dances, and poems which is a good opportunity for artists to show their pieces of work, as well as honor Malawi. This festival is held annually and can attract more than 16,000 people in 2019 and continues to the present.

Wine Festival - Lilongwe

Event Time: As scheduled

Admission fee: MK25,000 per Ticket and MK30,000 at the door

The Wine Festival was held for the first time in Malawi. This is an annual festival held by Wines and Wings. This year, this festival is held at Kumbali Lodge, Lilongwe. 

Participants will taste a different variety of wine with bread and several beverages. Also, there is a food zone for participants to find something to eat while sipping the wine. The aim of this festival is to introduce Africa’s wine brands to Malawi. 

The first Wine Festival was held in June 2022 at Kumbali Lodge, Lilongwe.

Beerland Festival - Lilongwe and Blantyre

Event Time: Every 2 months

Admission fee: MK3,000

The beerland festival started in 2019, held by Lucy Msowoya from Lakini Enterprise and Kennedy Maluwa from DJ Kenny Entertainment. It is an event held at places every 2 months both in Blantyre and Lilongwe. 

This event gives an opportunity for teenagers to show their talents in fashion, food, drinks, music, and dances. This is the new form of socialization to increase the market base for anyone who wants to offer their products.

The Beerland Festival is considered a market of fun for a new age of society that presents entertainment and lifestyle to every group of people in the new era society. 

European Union Film Festival

Admission fee: Free

European Union Film Festival is an annual festival that presents praised European films along with Malawi’s short films.

The first European Union film festival was held by the Lake of Stars Team in 2019 at Crossroads Hotel, Lilongwe, and Jacaranda foundation in Blantyre. Although this event is admission-fee free, the capacity is limited. 

The aim of this festival is to connect the European film producers with Malawi’s people. It is a forum for discussions, exhibitions, and films of both European film and Malawi films to further develop Malawi’s film industry.
