Plan to travel to Zanzibar; which is the best month to go?

The best time to travel to Zanzibar is definitely in summer which is from June to October. It is the time that tourists flood into Tanzania and Zanzibar to experience the atmosphere, especially safari visiting. Still, Zanzibar has a pleasant month to visit most of the year. Let’s see what months are there!

January - February

It is the suitable time to visit Zanzibar in January and February. During the day, it will be quite hot and sunny and the temperature will be around 25°C at night. This month is the season for mangoes and fresh fruits. It is also the last harvest season of cloves on Pemba Island. It is perfect for diving activities and snorkeling in the southern coastal areas.

Temperature: Approximately 33 – 34 °C

March

March is the beginning of the rainy season. Rain starts in mid-March onward. It’s a sweet pineapple season for Zanzibar. Some resorts or hotels in Zanzibar are closed during this period, but some offer interesting discounts.

Temperature: Highest at 35 °C

April - May

April to May are the months that enter ‘long rain’ or the most heavy rain periods. It is a low season and has strong waves from heavy rain and a period of frequent change, so there are not many tourists visiting during this period.

Temperature: Approximately 32 – 29 °C

June - September

After the torrential rains of last month, June to September is the best month to travel since Zanzibar entered the summer season. It is a dry season, with clear skies, and the weather is not too cold or hot. It’s perfect for doing relaxing activities in Zanzibar such as sunset watching, scuba diving, sunbathing, and sightseeing around the island.

Temperature: Approximately 29 – 31 °C

October

October is a month with cool winds, clear skies, and calm seas. This month is the preparation month for the rainy season which will begin again in November. The sea temperature will be warmer for the rainy season and suitable for late summer vacations.

November - December

There is short rain and hot weather. It may rain in the morning and sunny during the day. It’s perfect for a spa or yoga session in the morning and for sunbathing in the afternoon.

Festivals and Holidays

During holidays such as Christmas and Easter, it is a busy time for both foreigners and tourists. In addition, Zanzibar people are mostly Islamic. During Ramadan every year, Muslims fast day and night for over a month, and result in most restaurants and shops closing during that period as well.
