All parties are eager to maintain Hong Kong’s financial stability and hope that Hong Kong will catch up with the improvement and development of blockchain and digital assets in the overall industrial environment. In addition, the forum aims to build a hub for communication between Hong Kong and the world through the Hong Kong Digital Currency Academy (HKDCA), a non-profit organization that provides knowledge exchange activities so that experts from various fields can promote Hong Kong’s development from the backwardness into catching up with global society.

Maria Eugenia Amaya, CEO of the World Digital Currency Forum (WDCF), said WDCF is a forum for government leaders, businesses, and financial leaders around the world to share in-depth information and share their opinions on global challenges from an international perspective and give a role for policymakers to come up with innovative ways to prepare for the future. The forum for this discussion is important to our efforts to break free from the COVID-19 economic haze.

The WDCF was first organized on December 16, 2019, and has been designated as the opening forum of international negotiations on digital currency development. Over the past few years, WDCF has worked to enable global networks to interact, share information, form an alliance, and find solutions through continuous use of technology. This year, WDCF has united with HKDCA to provide a powerful driving force continuously.

Dr. Jason Chan MH, JP, President of HKDCA and co-organizer of the conference, held the opening ceremony of Hong Kong Digital Currency Academy (HKDCA) and said at the conference that HKDCA is responsible for promoting the digital economy, consolidating all parties’ strength to rise to global challenges.

HKCDA was founded in 2021, with strong support from ACU Group and the collaboration of WDCFM and HKDCA teams this year which made HKDCA create a new driving force with three main objectives:

  • First, to promote blockchain technology, legal and business standards to set standards as one.
  • Second, to invite experts from all walks of life to join in order to strengthen the commercial aspects of the digital currency industry.
  • Third, to cultivate young people with creative initiatives and knowledge in various industries by organizing lectures and knowledge exchange meetings.

By forming committees including financial technology, application research, technology in international standards, training talented people in law and finance, and marketing, HKDCA will study issues related to digital currencies. At the same time, it will nurture a new generation who have talents in the industry so that the digital economy can be developed sustainably and create a better digital future together by combining individual wisdom.

The forum also invited Pierre Olivier Bakalag from Western Cameroon and Central Africa to give a speech. Olivier shared his personal experience with daily payments and cross-border transfers through digital currency and blockchain during his two years living in Hong Kong and expressed his intention to promote blockchain and digital currency development in poor countries such as Africa through his role as a former professional footballer and now as the founder of Royal Shield Inc Limited. In his speech, he said, “Hong Kong is about 10,890 kilometers from Cameroon. I have seen positive changes caused by blockchain and digital currency, and I want to use my network and knowledge to promote this advanced financial technology. I hope that by contacting representatives from countries where I seek expert advice humbly and learn more, it will be possible to successfully create blockchain and digital currency in Africa. Maybe start with my home country in Cameroon so that many people can enjoy the benefits of advanced financial technology built as soon as possible”
